In the 1980s, students at Oberlin College lobbied to find a permanent home for steel and timber sculpture serving as a reminder of the town’s integral role in freedom for thousands and the hardships endured in getting there. And unbeknownst to me, when I would arrive at the John Freeman Walls Historic Site and Underground Railroad Museum in Windsor, I would find the uplifting complement. (below) — Hilary Solan
