Manchester, N.H. —Before heading over to Portsmouth, I tried lunch at a fun little place in Manchester: Z Food & Drink. While a Z is fairly linear, the designs inside were all about the swirls—swirly chair backs, swirlies on the walls. Even the salad was swirly, especially the endive in my goat cheese croquette salad. Z Food & Drink is right on a main drag in Manchester, Elm Street, a block or so from Veterans Park with its memorials to New Hampshire veterans of the Civil War and major 20th-century wars.— Nathalie Strassheim
