Is your kid an aspiring travel writer? Test his or her talent in the Family Travel Forum Teen Travel Writing Contest. More than 6000 teens entered the contest last year, vying for the top prize of $1000. First place in 2008 went to a young woman who wrote about visiting her grandfather’s farm in West Virginia. The contest, co-sponsored and judged by professionals of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), also offers other cash prizes, hotel stays, tickets to Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and Rand McNally Road Atlases. To enter, students write a 600-word essay on their travel experience and submit it along with a digital photo. For rules and details on the contest see http://www.travelbigo.com/scholarships/teen_travel_writing. The contest is open until September 27, 2009.
