In March, we told you about the upcoming grand opening of the New Mexico History Museum. Right on schedule, this weekend’s opening festivities will kick off with a gala preview on Saturday for $200 a person. Sunday’s public opening features free admission from 12-6 p.m. to the History Museum and three other Santa Fe attractions—the Museum of Art, Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, and the Museum of International Folk Art. Admission to the History Museum is also free on Monday, May 25.
The museum began construction in 2004. It houses permanent and temporary exhibitions covering the state’s indigenous history, Spanish colonization, the Mexican Period, and the Santa Fe Trail.—Kelsey Rexroat
