Mendocino, Calif.—When I’m on vacation and about to return home, I’m prone to becoming an intolerable travel companion. Leave? No matter how long the trip, I’ll always feel as though I’ve just arrived. I’ve learned to combat my end-of-vacation blues by scheduling one of my most anticipated spots at the end of my trip. In this case? The quaint, coastal town of Mendocino, Calif. The small town charm of this artists’ community off the Pacific turned out to be the perfect send-off. — Hilary Solan

It was amazing to be able to see spouting whales from the window of my *workplace*! It’s a great place, great owner too.
