Washington, D.C. —The presidential race is at the forefront of American life as citizens prepare to head to the polls next month. The National Park Service is taking this time to point out the contributions of the past 43 presidents with its new Discover Our Shared Heritage travel itinerary program. On the new Web site, the park service has compiled a list of places that were influential either to the president or because of the leader. From George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia to the George W. Bush’s childhood home in Texas, the site lists information on how to visit the sites as well as historic and contemporary photographs of the places. Mary A. Bomar, director of the National Park Service, says: “I hope every citizen will visit a presidential site this election year. It is fitting to celebrate the accomplishments of past presidents as we prepare to elect a new one.” — Hilary Solan
